Inle Lake Floating Villages & Fishermen

Inle Lake is a world balanced on water. Long wooden boats carry you through narrow channels lined with reeds, opening into a vast expanse where life floats. Houses stand on stilts, their reflections trembling in the lake. Gardens grow on mats of water hyacinth, tethered by bamboo poles, yielding tomatoes, cucumbers, and beans that drift gently with the current. The lake’s fishermen are its most graceful figures.
